Abstract

Critical care medicine is a relatively new specialty that has been growing over the past seven decades. The specialty has come a long way from the bag-ventilation of polio patients to the modern intensive care units. Over the years, with more understanding of physiology, critical care now means intervening less while monitoring the patient more closely. The article touches upon the evolution of the specialty and the Indian context; and the opportunities artificial intelligence may bring in the coming decades.
