Abstract

Pulmonary synovial sarcoma is an uncommon lung tumour when compared to other lung malignancies. The diagnosis of primary pulmonary sarcoma is usually made after ruling out the common primary lung malignancies and metastatic sarcomas. Metastatic pulmonary synovial sarcoma is more common than primary synovial sarcoma. The usual presentation will be cough, chest pain, breathlessness and radiologically a mass in the lung. Histopathological examination and immunohistochemical staining of the biopsy sample are needed to confirm the diagnosis; if possible genetic study should also be done. Considering the rarity of this tumour, we report a case of a 66-year-old female with a huge right lung mass with ipsilateral pleural effusion, which was diagnosed as primary pulmonary synovial sarcoma by USG-guided lung biopsy.
